Craving for respect, Zanjoe Marudo exits "Banana Split"

After a short one-year stint, model-actor Zanjoe Marudo gives up on “Banana Split.” In justifying his decision, the 28-year-old seemingly insinuated that being part of the gag show doesn’t augur well for respectability.

"Gusto kong makuha 'yong respeto ng ibang tao, ng ibang artista, ng mga katrabaho ko,” said he.

To fortify his intent, Marudo signed up to do the very dignified TV adaptation of the pocketbook series titled Martha Cecilia's “Kristine,” where he will be paired with distinguished pin-up beauty Cristine Reyes.

The move, according to Marudo, could benefit him, as it would allow him to further branch out into other aspects of his chosen profession. His dedication is anchored on his earnest desire to uplift his family. The former “Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition” housemate taped his last episode for “Banana Split” on July 27. Prior to “Kristine,” Zanjoe played leading man on “Dyosa” (2008), “Varga” (2008), and “The Wedding” (2009). He recently appeared in the five-episode suspense movie “Cinco.”

What people remember more about Marudo, however, is his recent split with actress-host Mariel Rodriguez, who, quite seemingly, has jumped into the arms of action star Robin Padilla.

Charice made Luna cry on Star King?

Dubbed as “The Most Talented Girl in the World” by Oprah, singing machine Charice recently made her third appearance on SBS Star King. Her appearance itself grabbed lots of attention, as many tuned in to hear her story of success and most importantly, her singing. However, there was also a strong interest in f(x) Luna’s tears, which is now a very big topic.

To those of you who do not know, Luna sang Whitney Houston’s One Moment In Time, which was meant to be for David Foster, Charice’s legendary producer and now, godfather. Her singing was very good, but was soon after overshadowed by Charice’s rendition of the same song. Surprisingly, she was in tears after Charice finished. The cast then tried to cheer her up by saying “Our Luna is good too.” Charice also tried to cheer her up by giving her words of encouragement.

Netizens are now figuring out if her tears were from Charice’s admirable singing, or something else. The audience at the live set stated, “Luna and Charice’s mic quality and volume was different. Her tears were not because of the admirable singing, but because of the comparison.”

Others have been saying that the studio guest, Jo Hye Ryun told Luna at the recording that she had to be here in Korea which in other words meant that she could not succeed overseas, and caused her to burst into tears.

I personally think Luna did well. But being side by side like this with Charice (who can naturally belt out any song effortlessly) is a bit unfair. And what a lame excuse for those who say there was a HUGE mic difference! Come on, anyone can tell! And to be honest, I really don't think it would even matter if Charice sang a different song because I know she will still sound amazing.

COMEBACK: SHINee's "Lucifer" on Music Bank

SHINee boys are back!

It has been quite a while, and after months of absence from music programs, they've finally returned to the stage where they belong. They made their comeback special on Music Core with their dance track Lucifer and Up & Down. Injured MinHo (my love!!!) did not join the dancing though, but he was still FLAMING CHARISMA throughout the performance. The choreography was fabulous, and their new concept: stunningly lovely!

I swear, this comeback is a KILLER!

Nikki Gil's Legally Blond prompts nod from Wall Street

The local version of the Broadway hit "Legally Blonde: The Musical" garnered mention in an article that appeared in Wall Street Journal.

Apparently, the musical, which stars Filipino actress Nikki Gil, exemplifies the kind of success being experienced currently by international production companies cashing in on new-found interest for Broadway shows worldwide.According to writer Ellen Gamerman, more and more producers are now discovering that they can “reap huge profits overseas—sometimes even turning a Broadway flop into a foreign hit.”

It is as such, she wrote, that more “American shows are enlisting foreign investors and granting international rights [for their productions] at premium prices.”

Today, Gamerman says, the business continues to expand to include new territories such as Asia, South America, and South Africa. Apart from the mention, the article also bannered a photo of Gil in character.

FHM 100 Sexiest Women: They got nothing on Angel Locsin

Angel Locsin may well be the ultimate testament that a woman doesn’t need to wear skimpy outfits or do daring roles in order to be seen as sexy. For the second time in five years, she was crowned as FHM Philippines’ Sexiest Woman in the World at the magazine’s annual party last July 15.

She was literally an angel, donning big, white wings similar to the costume she wore during her “Mulawin” days in the Kapuso network. With a little help of harness, Locsin, wearing an elegant black tube mini-dress, descended from the air and gracefully landed at the center, surrounded by her fellas, who also made it to the 100 sexiest list.

The predominantly male crowd who thronged the World Trade Center shouted warm cheers for the actress as she ramped on the stage with B.O.B.’s “Nothing On You” on the background. Indeed, the other girls got nothin’ on the sexiest lady in the country.

AHHHHH!!!! (total fanGirl scream)

My super-dream-husband Park Leeteuk (2:23) looks amazingly gorgeous, by the way !*giggles* MARRY ME, Teukie-ah!!! Joke! Peace, my fellow elves =)

[translation]
**There’s no one like you
Even if I look around, they're all the same
A good person like you,
A good person like you,
With a good heart like you, a gift as great as you
How lucky that it's me trying to protect you
Where else can you find a person happy as me?
A happy guy like me,
A happy guy like me,
The guy with the happiest smile like me.

Your two warm hands gets cold when I’m cold
Your heart that used to be strong becomes sensitive when I’m hurt
Take my hand, hold me
I only wish to cheer you up
You don’t have to know my heart that wants to do more for you.

Call out my heart, free my soul
It always felt like the first time,
These remaining days are more than the time that I came to love you.
**

When my greedy heart gradually search to other directions
When my mind can’t handle whenever my greed grows even more
I know all those clearly say you’re here, it’s the only one
I’m always thankful
I could do better as you do.

Call out my heart, free my soul
It always felt like the first time,
These remaining days are more than the time that I came to love you
**

You know, I’m a little bit shy sometimes
You don’t know but you’re burning like the sun
Please understand my feelings
Even those girls that appear on TV shows are sparkling
You’ll always be the one in my eyes
(I’m going crazy crazy Baby)
Hearing you tell me that you love me,
I have everything in this world
You & I, You’re so fine
Will there be any other like you?
I love you Oh
To me there’s only you
To a fool like me, you're my everything.

We arrived at the same road
We have become more alike
I'm surprised, I'm thankful
It’s love.

Charice returns to "Star King"

MANILA, Philippines—If Charice owes her fame to YouTube, it must be noted that the first crucial video of the singer seen by millions worldwide was taken from her 2007 guest stint on the South Korean TV talent show “Star King.”

It was that initial performance (she appeared two times) on “Star King” which prompted American actress-TV host Ellen DeGeneres to invite—on air—the then 15-year-old Charice to come and guest on her own show. (It was not until the following year that Oprah Winfrey took her turn in booking the Filipina talent on her own show.)

Full circle

Things will come full circle next week when Charice returns to “Star King” in conjunction with a five-country Asian tour to promote her self-titled debut album with Warner Music.

The past few weeks, she traveled to the United States, Canada and Europe for the first part of the album promo tour.

According to a Vancouver-based website, which quoted Charice’s mother Raquel from the latter’s Twitter messages, the singer will be in Korea from July 11-15. She will tape an episode for “Star King” on July 12 (to be aired July 24).

As for her much-anticipated stint on Season 2 of the musical-drama-comedy TV series “Glee,” Charice said in a TV interview that shooting starts July 28. Season 2 premieres in September.
