Super Junior will arrive in Manila for SS3

Are you ready for Super Junior in Manila... again?

Our boys will be performing for the "Super Show 3: The 3rd Asia Tour" concert on February 26, 6PM at the Araneta Coliseum ( Big Dome ) in Quezon City. They will be joined by K-pop band TRAX, which is also managed by SM Entertainment, during the Manila concert on Saturday.

Filipino ELFs (Everlasting Friends, Super Junior fans) are gathering everyone for support projects for Super Junior members including making banners and fan chants. Also, the Super Junior United Philippines fan club is soliciting donations (mainly food) that will be given to Super Junior and the whole crew during the concert. Fans have also prepared Filipino and Korean food and drinks. These include dried mangoes, bottled water, softdrink, otap, juice drinks, chocolates, noodles, wine, candies, and Korean food. They are also bringing and wearing Super Junior related stuff to the concert including sapphire blue light sticks, towels, lanyards, ballers and t-shirts.

This will just be one of those sad moments in my poor life. It would really be a dream-come-true to be able to be there and shout my heart out to these lovely boys. Unfortunately, gazillion reasons are standing in the way. Anyway, I bet this will be just as successful as their Super Show 2 last year. Fighting!

Sneak Peek: "Subject: I Love You"

Take a sneak peek on Jericho Rosales‘ first Hollywood movie, “Subject: I Love You.”

Jericho Rosales will portray the role of a Filipino computer programming genius responsible for the “I love you” virus that wrought billions of damage in year 2002. He created the virus to track down the American girl, played by Briana Evigan (Step Up 2: D Streets, Sorority Row), that he met when the latter visited the Philippines.

Also starring in the romantic dramedy movie are Dean Cain (Lois and Clark) and Dante Basco (Take the Lead, Biker Boyz) and also our very own Gary Valenciano and Joel Torre. Directed by Francis dela Torre, “Subject: I Love You” is set to hit theaters later this year.

Iya Villania's boyfriend uncomfortable with her sexier image

Actress-TV host Iya Villania admits her boyfriend, TV host Drew Arellano, is not as happy as her male fans over the new and much more provocative image she has these days.

“It’s something different for him, like, ‘Wow may ganyan ka na huh,’” said she quoting her boyfriend in an interview with Push.com. Villania, who shows off her sexier side on a TV series and in the calendar spread for an alcohol brand, empathizes with him. “But of course, it’s normal for a guy to feel uncomfortable when he see or hears that his girlfriend is kissing another guy so I understand that.”

To deal with the matter, Villania reveals that Arellano now sleeps earlier than usual in order to avoid seeing her in sexy scenes on TV. Villania explained, “Alam naman niya [what he would see] so bakit niya ilalagay ang sarili niya sa uncomfortable situation?”

Villania insists, however, that accepting the series, as with the calendar project, are moves meant to further her career and not to infuriate her boyfriend of seven years. “It actually gave me that sense of fulfillment of enjoying acting, the enjoyment of playing a different character, of being someone very different from who you really are,” she said.

She insists that she can’t and won’t avoid roles or projects just because it is uncomfortable for Arellano. “I don’t think it’s something that I can dictate. If there are opportunities, I’ll do my thing, I’ll do my best.”

As such, Villania said she is more than thankful that Arellano is supportive as usual with the new direction she is taking. “He wants to let me make my own decision because I’m discovering more about myself. And I’m becoming a stronger and better person.” It helps of course that the sweethearts have already built strong groundwork pertaining to their relationship.

Testament to their strong bond, says Villania, is how they remain steadfast with each other despite their respective morning shows “Unang Hirit” and “Umagang Kay Ganda” or “UKG” compete directly each other.

“Actually excited siya for me because it’s something new. He’s been with 'Unang Hirit' for how many years, college pa lang ako. Excited kami to experience that [going up against each other].”

How did Super Junior take over China?

In CHINA, if you ask someone to name just one of Korea’s numerous idol groups, they usually pick Super Junior. How did Super Junior, who performs in all of Asia as if it were just one big stage and sells out all their concert tickets, manage to break into the important Chinese market?

Recently, a Chinese media outlet analyzed Super Junior's charms and attempted to reveal how the idol group got so popular in a relatively short amount of time. Their song, “Sorry Sorry” was especially popular, often picked as one of China’s favorite K-pop songs.

The results found that the easy-to-follow lyrics and the unique choreography captured Asia’s attention; In Taiwan, the song captured 1st place on one music chart for over 30 weeks. This was said to be an unusual occurrence and during that time, only “Sorry Sorry” could be heard in Taiwanese cities.

Although there have been several changes in the members of Super Junior over the past 5 years, they’re still regarded as Asia’s top boy band. In a surprisingly short time, they became the symbol of the Hallyu Wave. Their “rubbing hands” choreography was followed by Asians all over the continent, with pirated contents popping up on the internet, and fans following their dances and uploading videos onto the web. The simple yet addicting melody and dance became the reason for the song’s overwhelming popularity.

Super Junior’s leader, Leeteuk commented, “I think people like the special choreography as well, rather than liking the song alone. This is why so many people in Asia love our song“.

When Super Junior members travel to China, thousands of their fan girls greet their arrival, waiving their trademark blue light sticks. The Chinese media was surprised by the massive fan power, and explained, “Super Junior’s popularity not only comes from their good looks, but from the talent that comes from being trainees for several years".

Super Junior is among the only idol groups that can sing live while performing difficult choreography. China is also paying attention to the unit groups of Super Junior. K.R.Y, composed of Yesung, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun is known for their spectacular vocals. Super Junior M, composed of Siwon, Ryeowook, Kyuhyun, Donghae, ZhouMi and Henry, is known for their superb member configuration.

Super Junior M, especially, has succeeded in entering the Chinese market for using the ‘Localization Strategy’. With the members singing in Chinese, they have succeeded in gaining many Chinese fans. Siwon elaborated, “Super Junior M purposely has a Chinese member to target the Chinese market. We also can speak Chinese pretty well so we understand the locals“.

With the various aspects of the idol group, they’ve broken the notorious K-pop boy band rule, “That groups all disband 5 years after debuting“. Chinese media commented, “The Chinese audience is always looking for ‘fresh’ artists. Since Super Junior has a lot of members and can always give off a fresh vibe, they’re able to be loved for a long time“.

The group is now working towards breaking into the American market. Their participation for the concert in L.A. (SMTOWN) this past September was sold out completely. Not being satisfied just by their success in the Asian market, the group is attempting to conquer the American market as well.

The Chinese press made this last comment, “Super Junior is a well-respected and well-loved superstars. Sometimes they even exist as your friendly next-door neighbors. Everything from the members’ talents to their honest and truthful personalities make up the reason why they’re so dearly loved by the fans“.
