MANILA, Philippines - Not a few eyebrows were raised when crooner Richard Poon revealed that he is pursuing actress-model Maricar Reyes. The revelation, made during a press conference for his upcoming concert, surprised some especially since rumors have it that Poon is a closet homosexual.
Asked what prompted him to reveal his pursuit of Reyes, Poon told PEP, "There's nothing to hide." Poon has been vocal about his admiration for Reyes even from years ago when they were paired for one of his music videos. More than her good looks, Poon said he is drawn to Maricar's innate kindness. “She's a good person if you really get to know her."
According to the big band-style singer, his pursuit of Reyes - who once hugged headlines when her alleged sex video with disgraced model-physician Hayden Kho surfaced - started when they reconnected at the recent Star Magic Ball. They’ve been constantly hanging out since, oftentimes with common friends.
“We text a lot and we have very long conversations, whether coffee or something. So we really get along," Poon said. He proudly shared that he might’ve breached a level of sorts with his courtship of Reyes. “Parang sabi niya, 'You went through my wall.' Noong narinig ko 'yon, parang sabi ko, 'Thank you.'
Poon is non-committal when asked if Reyes is aware that he is publicizing his ardent pursuit. "I think we've discussed it once or twice," he said.
But what if Reyes disapproves of it and eventually shies off from him because of his revelation?
"Ako, I respect her for every decision she has. If she chooses to be silent, then, for me, if she's that important to me, I'd give her that space she needs. But if ever one day she shocks all of you by saying something about me, wow, I'll be the happiest man!"
