Pinoy netizens go gaga over a mention about PHL in Simpsons episode

MANILA BULLETIN
A gaggle of Filipinos are reacting wildly after the country received an apparent rare mention in an episode of The Simpsons.

In the episode “Politically inept, with Homer Simpson”, which was shown in the US last January 8, fictional talk show host Nash Castor noted Homer Simpson’s instant fame after his video in which he rants about his poor treatment at an airport goes viral.

We’re here with this guy which my kids said was the Thing, Homer Simpson,” Castor said, to which Homer replied, “Wohoo! I’m famous again.”

Yes, your video has been mashed up, auto-tuned, Jimmy Fallon’ed, Philippine Prisoner’ed, and occasionally even watched,” Castor added.

A cartoon footage seemingly depicting the infamous dance done by inmates in a Cebu penitentiary was shown along with the mention, which lasted for about a millisecond.

But that was enough for a couple of netizens who made obvious their elation through shout-outs via Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.

Astig,” said Kristoffer Raniel Lo of the episode.
Wow. I love Homer,” said Cristian CadeliƱa.
"Looks like the "more fun in the Philippines" slogan works :)" said Kris Dontsaylazy.
Nice,”said Ian Salazar.

Then again, there were the levelheaded few that downplayed the matter.
I think we're getting too enthusiastic about the Philippines getting famous around the world and all. That was only a very short insertion. It's saying something, sure it is. But I don't think it's that much of a big deal,” said one Jomar Pandan.

But Meister Christian Dionisio beg to disagree. “Kahit 0.1 second lang tayong on air sa palabas nila dapat tayong maging masaya dahil sikat ang pamilyang ito [Simpsons], itong ang longest running television show in the world, panahon pa ni Cory ngayon anak na niya ang pagulo natin.. 22 years, we must be proud,” he said.

Both ABS-CBN News and TV5’s Interaksyon also ran stories about it.
